This year’s fashion trends are harder to define in terms of this season’s colours and make up as there are so many to choose from. The era of love, peace and Woodstock brought about a massive change to the world of fashion. In Mad Men, we can see the more conservative and elegant trends set by former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The sixties was also the decade that British fashion designer, Mary Quant, invented the mini skirt. The late 1960s and the summer of love introduced bell-bottoms, hair bands and loose gypsy tops to the world. Darker shades of lipstick became less prominent as the natural look took over. Light pink lip gloss became the most sought-after colours of lip make up. This look was accompanied with black mascara, dark eyeliner and eye shadow.

 

 

The popularity of this trend continued into Seventies and was incorporated with Farrah Fawcett’s legendary hairstyle. This make up fashion lasted until the latter half of the decade. Darker shades of make up grew in popularity once again with the stardom of David Bowie and Adam and the Ants. This period in time was all about testing what had yet to be tried out. In addition, new styles of music like punk and new wave was heavily influential and dictated the way people dressed and applied cosmetics.
